The Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art

Opened in 1998, the Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art features two beautiful theatres, spacious studios for classes, rehearsals and performances, a fully equipped costume complex and scene shop, a sound design studio, and departmental office and meeting space.

Paul Green Theatre

The Paul Green Theatre is the home of PlayMakers Repertory Company.  Seating five hundred, its versatile thrust stage was designed by the legendary Desmond Heeley. The theatre is named for the Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright, teacher and humanist Paul Green, who was an early graduate of the Department of Dramatic Art. During each season, which runs from October through April, PlayMakers presents six shows in the Paul Green Theatre.

Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre

Completed in 1999, the Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre is a flexible performance space that seats nearly 120 in the thrust configuration and over 200 when in the round. Located in the Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art next to the Paul Green Theatre, it is a black box facility that includes a $350,000 lighting and sound system. Four undergraduate productions directed by faculty or guests take place there annually, along with three productions in the PRC2 series.
