Jeffrey Blair Cornell has been acting with PlayMakers Repertory Company since 1995. Last season, Jeffrey played “Herr Schultz” in Cabaret, and “Dr. Wachovia” and “St. Peter” in Imaginary Invalid, directed by Dominique Serrand. Jeffrey also journeyed north to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to play Louis de Rougement in their production of Shipwrecked! An Entertainment. Recent seasons at PlayMakers have seen him as “King Henry” and “Pistol” in Henry IV/V, “Lloyd” in Noises Off, “The King” in Big River, and “Roy Cohn” in Angels in America (Millenium Approaches/Perestroika).
Other notable roles with PlayMakers include“Father Flynn” in Doubt, “Matamore the Lunatic” in The Illusion and “Cohen with a ‘K’” in The Underpants, directed by Gene Saks. Favorite productions from 18 seasons with PlayMakers include The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Opus, Arcadia, Cyrano de Bergerac, King Lear, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, The Threepenny Opera, The Laramie Project, Uncle Vanya, Side Man, Wit, The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Hobson’s Choice.
Jeffrey has acted in New York and regionally at Pittsburgh Public Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Paper Mill Playhouse, Victory Gardens Theatre, Caldwell Theatre Company (2 Best Supporting Actor Carbonell Award Nominations) and in summer stock at Michigan’s Birmingham Theatre (opposite Lorna Luft in “Girl Crazy”) and five seasons at St. Michael’s Playhouse (CORST “Z”) in Vermont.
Jeffrey studied in New York with Uta Hagen and Austin Pendleton at HB Studios and holds an MFA from the Professional Actor Training Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. A member of Actors’ Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild, Jeffrey currently serves as Associate Chair in the Department of Dramatic Art. He has taught courses in the graduate and undergraduate programs in acting, voice and dramatic literature.
