Caitlin Ryan O’Connell is a theatre director and teaching artist based in Brooklyn. She is the associate director of Underground Railroad Game and launched the international tour with Ars Nova. She recently directed Olivia Dufault's The Messenger as part of Clubbed Thumb's WINTERWORKS '17. She has worked with Signature Theatre, Ars Nova, LCT3, The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Trinity Repertory Company, and Clubbed Thumb. She has assisted Anne Kauffman, Ken Rus Schmoll, Will Eno, Nicholas Martin, Taibi Magar, Adam Rapp, Jeremy Cohen, KJ Sanchez and Wendy C. Goldberg. Caitlin is a Clubbed Thumb 2017 directing fellow, a former directing apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville, and an alum of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab. She teaches Directing at the National Theatre Institute and is a teaching artist with The International Theatre and Literacy Project where she works in Rwanda to devise theatre with teenagers. In 2010, she conceived and directed A World of Girls, an original play based on interviews with teenage girls from twenty-two countries worldwide. She has trained with the National Theater Institute, St. Petersburg Theatre Arts Academy, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Simon McBurney’s Complicite and the NY Neofuturists. BA from Wellesley College, MFA from Brown University/Trinity Rep.
