The Department of Dramatic Arts offers many opportunities for interested students--majors and non-majors alike--to participate in performance and production. This page provides a brief overview of these opportunities; for more detailed information, follow the links to the programs' own web pages.
DDA Mainstage- is a faculty or guest directed studio with undergraduate actors and designers. Casting for Mainstage is open to all registered UNC students.
Playwriting Studio- focuses on student writing through a progression of cold readings, workshops, and production all of which are open to the public's participation through feedback and discussions with the playwright, director and cast.
Advanced Showcase- is led by student directors from the Department assisted by faculty advisors, uses undergraduate actors, directors, designers, and technicians.
Lab!-
Lab!
produces a season of 12 fully-mounted productions each year. Lab! is an entirely
student-run organization. The Lab! Board is headed by three producers
elected in the spring who oversee the organization.
PlayMakers Repertory Company-
s
a nationally recognized professional theatre company that operates under
agreements with Actors Equity Association, the Society of Stage Directors
and Choreographers, and United Scenic Artists. In association with the
Department of Dramatic Art, PlayMakers is a principal training ground for
graduate students in Acting, Costume Production, and Technical Production,
and serves the campus and the wider community by producing a nine-play
professional theatre season in the Center for Dramatic Art.
Graduate Students of Dramatic Art-
(GSDA) is an organization comprised of
all of the graduate students in the Department of Dramatic Art, that is
intended to unite the three fields of study and provide more collaborative
efforts towards graduate productions.
UNC-CH Pauper Players-
is a student-run organization dedicated to bringing
musical theater to the UNC Campus. Established in 1989, Pauper Players offers
students the opportunity to participate in every aspect of musical theater
production.
Company Carolina-
is a theater organization entirely run by students. Company
Carolina produces a variety of shows, from Shakespeare to Andrew Lloyd Weber and
provides the opportunity for involvement in all aspects of production both to
students and to the community.
