The Center for Dramatic Art serves as a teaching theatre where students interact and collaborate with each other, the faculty and resident company members to create world-class educational and theatrical experiences.
Through preparation, production and performance our BA and MFA degrees in Dramatic Art allow students to transfer what they learn in the classroom into practice with the Kenan Theatre Company and PlayMakers Repertory Company.
All students can expect to attend formal classes in the morning. In the afternoon, the Center for Dramatic Art transitions to a focus on production with rehearsals and construction taking place in all of our studios, shops, and on our stages.
MFA students in Dramatic Art are integrated into the workings of PlayMakers Repertory Company. Students will audition and become part of the resident acting pool; and create costumes, build scenery, and comprise the staff of the shops for PlayMakers, PRC² and Kenan Theatre Company productions.
Students pursuing their BA in Dramatic Art have the opportunity to learn from faculty with expert careers in professional theatre. As artist/teachers, the faculty work with students in the classroom and studio as well as on and back stage.
