Welcome to the Department of Dramatic Art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Established in 1925 we are the second oldest theatre department in the country and the home of our professional LORT D theatre company, PlayMakers Repertory Company. Fully versed in contemporary world theatre our faculty members are both scholars and artists, teachers and practitioners, constantly moving back and forth between the classroom, our rehearsal halls, and our shops. Every faculty member also holds responsibilities with either PlayMakers Repertory Company or the Kenan Theatre Company, our undergraduate production arm. Students in our BA in Dramatic Art put what they learn in the classroom into practice with the Kenan Theatre Company, while PlayMakers Repertory Company provides a laboratory for students in our MFA programs in Acting, Costume Production, and Technical Production to pursue their professional training at the highest possible level. The Center for Dramatic Art, with its excellent educational and artistic facilities, is the crucible where we transform learning into practice everyday as we create world-class educational and theatrical experiences for our students, faculty, and audiences. Come join us!
