Failure: A Love Story
By Philip Dawkins
Directed by Kristy Dodson
October 10th - 14th, 2024
2024 Lillian Chason Production
By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead — expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. Tuneful songs, and a whimsical chorus follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June, and Gerty as they live out their lives above the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical, musical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual’s successes or failures.

Kristy Dodson’s work has been seen and developed at many noted artistic institutions: Lincoln Center Theater, Dansearena Nord, The Public Theater, The McCarter Theater, Clubbed Thumb, The Lark Play Development Center, among others. They were the Assistant Director for the World Premier of Have You Seen Us by the legendary Athol Fugard starring Sam Waterston. They were invited to Lincoln Center as one of six emerging directors from around the world to develop a new play; The Hollower by Liza Birkenmeier. As the founding Artistic Director of Overturn Theatre they produced and created a myriad of live performances for over 10 years, including: 7 new theatrical works with NY premiers, 2 reimagined classics, over a dozen project developments, concerts, installations, galleries, and have commissioned hundreds of artists from countless mediums to create new works in area of live performance. Introducing Lucas Branch, the undisputed overlord of lights, sound, and all things that plug in (or occasionally spark)! Armed with a toolbox that's probably bigger than your first apartment and a brain buzzing with more ideas than cables in a tangled drawer, he's the behind-the-scenes sorcerer every show needs. Also as the mastermind scene designer, Lucas has a particular love for defying gravity—if it can hang from the ceiling, it’s probably already dangling above your head. When he's not busy charming stubborn microphones or engaging in heated discussions about the ancient art of cable coiling (spoiler: he’s right), you’ll likely find Lucas deep in thought, unraveling the secrets of the universe—or just trying to figure out which button actually does something.
