Assistant Professor Jacqueline Lawton Receives IAAR Faculty Fellowship

May 1, 2019

Assistant Professor Jacqueline Lawton is the 2019-2020 recipient of the UNC Institute of African American Research’s (IAAR) Faculty Fellowship. The fellowship supports research by UNC-CH faculty who are engaged in studies of African Americans and/or the broader African diaspora.

Lawton will use this fellowship to develop her new play “Asylum,” a socio-political family drama that addresses racial justice and refugee rights in the U.S. The play will create a unique intersection of arts and research, and will examine what happens in the immigrant rights movement when black immigrants seek asylum.

Congratulations, Jacqueline!
